Our latest kitchen remodel took us down to Huntington Beach, where the sun is always out and the surf is always up. Take a peek at the highlights of this project below: you might just pick up some ideas for your own home!
These custom-built cabinets use Shaker-style doors fitted with modern pulls. For the paint, we used a shade called Silver City, from Dunn-Edwards. The induction stove fits seamlessly within the speckled quartz countertop.
By keeping the island on the smaller side, we were able to highlight a very open room design while still providing some extra countertop workspace. A foot-long overhand frees up some additional floor area and allows just enough room to pull up a couple of barstools, should the occasion arise.
With kitchen islands, placement is key. Islands have the potential to complement your cooking workflow wonderfully, but they can also be an obstacle if not designed properly.
In the design stage, we often refer to the idea of a “work triangle”. Since most kitchen tasks take place at one of three places (fridge, stove, and sink), it’s important that you’re able to move between these fixtures easily, with no awkward detours. You can see that this is a kitchen with smooth, easy flow from station to station.
Blue and ivory come together in this glass tile backsplash – a perfect fit with the room’s color theme that still finds a way to stand out. Backsplashes offer a chance to showcase your unique flair, and will protect your kitchen walls from steam damage and food stains as well. Notice those hanging pendant lights, too – a striking industrial touch in an otherwise modern room.
