Giving Your Child a Room Makeover

Our children’s personal bedroom is a direct reflection of themselves. It is their space in the home to be creative, do homework, and relax. For a place that they will spend so much time, it might be a good idea to tailor their room to them. This can be a great bonding experience for you and your child, as you choose the theme, color scheme, and overall style of their room together.

Painting is a great place to start. Looking at paint samples and selecting the perfect shade will be tons of fun for your little one. If you are not completely convinced that you should go ahead and paint their entire room, start with one wall. Accent walls are very popular because it gives any room the perfect splash of color to help enforce your theme. This will still give your child a sense of joy, without making too big of a commitment.

Storage room is absolutely necessary in a child’s room. They need plenty of space to store their clothing and belongings. For this, custom cabinets or wall cubbies are perfect. This gives them storage area in a stylish way. Closet door can also be made custom. This means that both cabinet and closet doors will match perfectly and effortlessly. This will make the room look very organized and put together.

Carpet is not a good idea for a child’s room. It can stain and be damaged too easily. Tile or wood will combat against stains and spills. It can also handle more wear and tear over the years of use that your child’s room will get. It will make for an easier cleanup, and a longer lifespan of your flooring. If you feel that carpet will be better for creating the theme of the room, try an area rug. This gives you the color and texture that you desire, without having to worry about a pricy replacement if it is damaged.

When your child begins to have sleepovers and is constantly inviting friends over, you may experience some stress when trying to figure out sleeping arrangements. You may want to invest in a bunk bed, or an expandable bed. Kids love bunk beds, and they are great for when they have guests over. It is also great for any of your overnight guests who have children. Instead of cramming the entire family into a guest bedroom or living room, their children have available space in your child’s room.

Lighting is important in any room. There are many ways to use light whether it be natural light, a chandelier, or a wall sconce. Some fun colored wall sconces will be the perfect finishing touch for any children’s room. This is a subtle yet elegant way to further establish the theme of the room.
